Medical IRAs from take care have become increasingly popular. Individual retirement accounts work by providing citizens the opportunity to save money for their retirement with a number of tax advantages. A medical IRA - also known as an HSA - allows the saving of tax-exempt dollars that are destined to be used solely for medical expenses.
Explaining the Benefits of a Medical IRA
Health savings accounts - the more correct name for medical IRAs - must be used in conjunction with a high deductible health plan. They are designed to replace higher costing traditional health plans that come with low co-pays but a plethora of restrictions on medical choices. The HSA provides greater freedom and greater choice for typically the same overall cost - if not less - than traditional plans.
At its most basic, an HSA works by putting a certain portion of money towards the cost of a high deductible plan (the deductible
in 2006 must be no lower than $1,050 for individuals and $2,100 for families,
and in 2007 $1,100 for individuals and $2,200 for
families) and the rest into a tax-deductible account. The savings account should be used to pay for regular medical costs until the deductible is met. If necessary, at that point the other plan can take over for expenses in excess of the deductible.
Since the money is drawn directly out of a savings account for medical costs, there are far less restrictions concerning the choice of doctors or treatments than typically accompany other plans. Convenience is another appeal of medical IRAs. In fact, the money located in these accounts can typically be accessed and used for payments by either writing a check or using a debit card connected to the account.
